Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers about the booking process, documents, and what to expect at pick-up.

4Drive Sri Lanka connects travelers with local suppliers across the island. You book online, receive a voucher, then sign the agreement directly with the supplier at their counter. No deposit blocked on your card, no credit card needed at pick-up — that's the core of how we work.

Below are the questions we hear most often. Can't find what you need? Reach us at [email protected] or call +94 11 234 8765 during office hours (Mon–Sun 8:00 AM – 7:00 PM, GMT+5:30).

How does the booking work?
Select your dates and vehicle on our website, pay the booking advance online, and you'll receive a voucher by email within minutes. Print or save the voucher on your phone. At pick-up, show it to the supplier along with your driving documents; they'll prepare the rental agreement. The balance is settled directly with them.
What documents do I need at pick-up?
Your passport, valid home-country driving licence, International Driving Permit, and the voucher we send. Sri Lankan law also requires a recognition permit — the supplier arranges this for you before or during handover. Keep both permits and your original licence with you whenever you drive.
Is a credit card mandatory?
No. The supplier does not block a deposit on any card. You pay the advance online when you book, then settle the balance at pick-up in cash or by the method agreed in your voucher. No pre-authorization, no hold.
What is the minimum age to drive?
Most suppliers set 21 as the minimum age and require at least one year of licence history. A few vehicles — larger SUVs, vans — may need you to be 23 or 25. The age rule will be visible in the vehicle description before you confirm your booking.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
Changes and cancellations follow the policy printed on your voucher. Contact us as soon as you know your plans have shifted; we'll coordinate with the supplier. Advance notice usually means lower fees, but exact terms depend on the supplier and how close you are to pick-up day.
How is fuel handled?
You collect the vehicle with a full tank and return it full. Ceypetco and IOC stations are common along main routes and in towns. Keep receipts if you want a record. If you bring the vehicle back less than full, the supplier will charge for the missing litres plus a refuelling service fee.
What does the voucher contain?
Vehicle make and class, pick-up and drop-off dates, location details, supplier name and contact number, insurance summary, mileage allowance, and any extras you selected. The voucher also lists the balance due at pick-up and the cancellation policy. Treat it like your boarding pass — you need it to collect the keys.
Who do I call if something goes wrong during the rental?
The supplier's emergency number is printed on the voucher and on the key-tag. For breakdowns, accidents, or any roadside issue, call them first — they manage the fleet and can dispatch help. You're also welcome to phone our office during business hours if you need assistance coordinating.
Are there mileage limits?
Most bookings include unlimited kilometres. A few budget options or short-term deals may cap daily distance; the voucher will state the limit and the per-kilometre charge for overages. Check the vehicle description on the booking page before you confirm.
Can I pick up at the airport and drop off in another city?
Yes. One-way rentals between Bandaranaike International at Katunayake, Colombo city, Galle, Kandy, and other hubs are possible. A relocation fee usually applies; you'll see it itemised during booking. Confirm the exact drop-off address on your voucher so you know where to return the keys.
